Perfume brings FUTURE POP to LA at The Theatre at Ace Hotel

The Theatre at Ace Hotel, April 19, 2019

Live Report by Nhu Nguyen

In between their two weekends at Coachella, Perfume brought their own headlining show to eager fans in Los Angeles for their 4th world tour “FUTURE POP” at The Theatre at Ace Hotel on April 19.

The setlist was solid and refreshing (with the slight exception of a slightly messy medley that played during a history montage), with half the songs coming from last year’s FUTURE POP and the rest a crowd-pleasing mix of some of their best material, like “Electro World” (2006), “Pick Me Up” (2015), and the iconic “Chocolate Disco” (2007).

The creative team behind Perfume continues to bring the best technology and graphics to add visual impact to their music — the precision beats and patterns of “Fusion” were a stunning highlight. And while the music and visuals are products of the digital realm, the very real charisma of members a-chan, Nocchi, and Kashiyuka has a power all its own. During the MC break, the members impressed the audience with their long and much-improved English comments, and gave fans who attended previous Perfume shows déjà vu with familiar fan service bits (I’ll always know how to properly brush my teeth!)
